We finished our Easter term with the traditional school Easter Egg Competition, a chocolate raffle from the PTA and an Easter Egg hunt on Friday afternoon. It’s been a very busy term and children have amazed us with their learning. Their attitude in school for ALL children is fabulous and it truly is a privilege to work at CVPS.
Well done to all entries for the competition. As usual there was a very high standard across all categories.
After some very difficult judging, winners from each category were as follow:
Early years: Jacob Roper
KS1: Katie Russell
KS2 winners: Thomas Brogan; Darcey Moy-Atkinson
Adult Joint winners: Sonia Vallance; Mam and Dad Wells
We celebrated all the children’s achievements in our usual Friday assembly, and looked back on some amazing learning experiences that have taken place at school this past term.
Sharon Hodgson MP for Washington and Sunderland visits to experience our lunchtime and outdoor learning.

On Wednesday this week Sharon and her husband Alan came to visit our school. Sharon was one of the key politicians who promoted free infant school meals for pupils under 7. She is part of a cross party group which meets three times a year and works to promote healthy eating in schools.
She was amazed by our universal offer of school dinners, and listened carefully to the benefits it brings to our children and the impact school lunches have on children’s well being and learning. Sharon was bowled over by the outdoor learning experiences and couldn’t believe that we kept pigs! We are delighted that she has invited myself and a small group of children to Parliament to present our experience to the working party about school lunches and what we think the government can do to make things even better!
Year 3 and Year 4 Tri Golf

An avid group of tri-golfers attended the Cramlington Sports Partnership Tri Golf Tournament this week on Thursday They represented the school very well and although they weren’t placed out of the eleven schools, they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well done one and all!
PTA Chocolate Raffle
Winners for our chocolate raffle will be announced on the Friday email, and on class Facebook pages! Thank you to everyone who donated and who bought a raffle ticket.
Forthcoming class assemblies:
Friday 5th May Y1 class (Charlotte and Lisa) Please come to the hall from 8.30am after you drop the children off to enjoy hearing all about what the class has learned about Amazing animals.
Staff changes next term
We say goodbye to Miss Whyte in Y3 and Hannah in Y2 who have enjoyed positive placements at CVPS. We wish them well as they return to their host schools. Next half term Emma O’Donnell will teach alongside Miss Weatheritt in Y3 as part of her CPD programme, and Miss Koratzitis will teach in Y5. We have an excellent team of staff in all classes and pupils and staff receive positive experiences when staff work across different classes.

Stranger Danger
This week class assemblies have been used to reinforce the importance of stranger danger strategies. Please reiterate this with your children now the nights are lighter and they can play out for longer.
And finally…
We wish you all a very Happy Easter break and hope that everyone enjoys a well earned rest. Many thanks for the excellent continued support that you offer to our school. We really value the support and honest, well considered feedback that you give to support CVPS to move forward.
