Our early years children have been captivated by the chicks, watching them carefully, showing care and consideration. Thanks to Katie for the webcams that helped us to see them morning, noon and night! We are looking forward to adding some of them to our chicken collection so that we can add to the animals we care for. If you are interested in being involved caring for the pigs and chickens, at weekends and in holidays, please let a member of staff know. On writing this we have 9 chicks that have hatched out of their eggs – we can’t wait to choose names for them all.

Year 2 visited York this week as part of their topic all about Chocolate. They have made their own chocolate and watched chocolate being made, alongside learning about the history of chocolate. They also got to bring some home at the end of a busy old day which they all enjoyed eating! (Still waiting for mine!)
Attendance
We are very proud that nearly all our parents place high priority on great attendance and punctuality. Many thanks for your continued support for attendance which we feel is based on our mutually respectful partnership with our parents. However, there is a very small minority of parents whose children are either persistently late or regularly absent during term time. We are currently taking legal advice on how to address these issues more formally and will inform all parents of any changes to the existing system, once governors have an opportunity to discuss potential amendments to the current approach. This year the government has increased the critical level of attendance from 85% to 90% which some of our children are very close to. Parents of children whose attendance is 90% or less are informed every half term.
Volunteers in school
CVPS welcomes many different people into school for a wide variety of different experiences such as reading with children, supporting forest school, sharing experiences through one off visits, and supporting learning expeditions and swimming. If you have any spare time that you can offer to school please pop in and let the office staff or class teachers know so that we can increase our pool of expertise in school.
Cole’s goal
We hosted a visit from Cole and his family who explained what happened when Cole suffered a cardiac arrest at the age of only 7 years old. The aim of this valuable charity is to ensure that defibrillators are purchased to support more people to have access to life saving equipment if it’s ever needed. We are discussing with the children ways to fundraise the £450 needed to secure the defibrillator machine as well as to raise awareness of the importance of heart health.
Forthcoming class assemblies:
Apologies for any confusion about the date for our next class assembly for Y1/2 – Lisa and Charlotte’s class. It was listed on the last newsletter in the side bar differently to the ‘Diary Dates’ section.
The correct date for the class assembly will be Friday the 5th May at 8.40am.
School Council
The school council have been busy counting the Sainsbury’s vouchers as well as choosing equipment to purchase using the vouchers. Thanks so much to everyone for contributing. Please continue to bring in as many as you can! We are hoping for some goalposts for the highly popular field!
CVPS on the lookout for volunteers!
CVPS is currently looking for any volunteer DIY enthusiasts to support the development of the outdoor area. We will accept contributions of people’s skills and time for individual projects, or for blocks of time whichever suits best. Please speak to your child’s class teacher, or feel free to volunteer a friend or partner who you know has these skills.

Infectious diseases
Please note that we have had a case of conjunctivitis in school. This can be very contagious, but is now not classed as one of the Health Protection Team’s conditions that require absence from school. Treatment should be in the form of cream as soon as possible to minimise any discomfort. We take all advice from the Health Protection Agency’s most up to date guidance.
