School Newsletter

A week of judo for everyone! Thanks to Y3 staff for supplying photos of the exciting activities they have encountered this week. Leaders in school completed their half termly lesson observations of all the staff this week. This is always a privilege and gives us an insight into the many aspects of learning that take place at CVPS. We see a wide range of interesting and innovative teaching approaches that our children respond very well too. Our school is always an inspiring and energising place to be – even in the cold, dark month of January.

2019 IS THE YEAR OF READING IN CVPS (update from Melissa Costello our English Coordinator)

Here at CVPS we are always striving to improve the education of our children and this year we have decided to focus on fostering the love of reading.

Reading is the key to so many other aspects of education and we want to place it at the heart of what we do in school.

Children have already returned questionnaires about their reading habits and told us what they would like to see in the library. They had some brilliant suggestions from more bean bags to audio books to family reading sessions. Our LOL (Love Our Library) team will be working on developing the library space to make it a more accessible resource for everyone to use.

In assembly on Thursday we discussed our first reading challenge. We would like all children to read at least five times a week at home to help foster the reading habit. Children decided that class winners each week could decide on a book to be added to our school library. Over the year we are looking forward to organising a whole host of events to get us all (staff included) to read more. Look out for Buddy Reading, Reading Assemblies, Bedtime Stories and Family Story Times.

So grab a book and get reading! STEM WEEK 2019

We are participating again in STEM week (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) from 25th March. Sarah Koratzitis would love to hear from any parents or family members who would like to come into school to talk to the children about their role in the workplace relating to these important subject areas. Contact the school on the usual info@villageprimary.org email address.
