Measuring, maths, sharing and cheese-making! We were visited last week by our local mayor, Loraine de Simone who has launched a ‘Cramlington does Denim for Dementia’ day today. Many thanks to everyone for supporting this worthwhile cause. There are some lovely video clips of children interviewing adults with dementia on the Alzheimer Society website if you search it. We have discussed it with the children at age appropriate levels so in class assemblies rather than whole school. We all know friends, relatives and neighbours who have been affected so are embracing the opportunity to raise awareness. If you feel you can donate £1 for the charity please send the children in with it when they come to school on Monday.

We are welcoming the mayor to lead an assembly to tell us all about her mayoral role in the town! In and around school – busy as always with photo highlights above from Y4 cheese-making as they explore the scientific processes between changes in the states of matter. I’m still waiting for a taste after not getting anything back from the Creamery last week! This week has been a fantastic opportunity for myself and Amanda Milligan, our Vice Principal to visit all classes in school and observe teaching and learning. This is always a favourite opportunity of mine – and again we weren’t disappointed this week. We saw exceptional engagement levels of the children in class, as well as plenty examples of outstanding practice. I know the children’s strong progress is the result of exciting inspiring lessons – and we celebrated that with the staff this week. Well done to everyone for their positivity in school – it’s been great!
Classroom/outdoor parent volunteers
We welcome parents who can support forest school, reading with individual children, eating lunch with the children, and admin tasks as well such as labelling, photocopying and laminating. If you can offer a regular hour or so every week you would be very welcome. Pop into the school office and let us know so we can chat about what you can offer.
Visit from New School’s Network (NSN)
We welcomed representatives from NSN this week who visit free schools up and down the country to hear all about their innovation and follow up on what has worked well. Oracy and inclusivity were elements that our visitors remarked were exceptional and distinctively different. It was nice to hear that from people who frequently see many many different schools.
Trip reminders
Y1, Y2 and Y3 are off to the Great North Museum on Monday morning so please ensure they arrive into school on time. Usual collection times at the end of the day. We must have written consent forms for all children and these can only be accepted if they are signed by the parents with ‘parental responsibility’. Many thanks.
STOP PRESS….CVPS has been awarded £2000 from local engineering firm Sterling Pharma Solutions in Dudley
They are working with us on STEM projects in 2020 and the funding will enable us to resource our science provision even better than usual. We are excited to be joining up with a
new local partner and can’t wait to spend that cheque! They won the award for outstanding manufacturing performance this year and chose Cramlington Village Primary School to gift it to. Huge thank you to Sterling – we look forward to working on how we will further enhance our STEM offer with the funding!
