Year 4 got fabulous weather this week for the annual residential activity holiday to Robinwood. Reports are shared on Facebook and I receive emails morning and evening to update me on the excellent resilience, team spirit and camaraderie that is seen. It’s also lovely to see that one of the Robinwood group leaders is the same as last year. Well done Robinwood you do a great job! And well done to Year 4 for relishing those amazing challenges! Very proud principal once again!

A huge well done to all the key stage 2 pupils who made an extra effort to complete their homework this week after my reminder. We have seen improvements not only in homework being handed in on time, but also in the quality of the homework with some exceptional pieces. Well done Key Stage 2!
Suncream
Children from Y1 upwards should have available their own suncream to bring into school with their name on that can be left in their drawers to use when necessary. This ensures that the children start to take a lead in managing their own care needs, and helps them to understand how to apply their own cream. Please send a small tube of whatever brand you use now the sunshine is finally here! Early years children have their own systems and require signed consent forms for adults to apply their cream.
London residential trip to Parliament
We are planning a Year 5 trip to London to see the Houses of Parliament at the end of July on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st July as part of their current topic on democracy in action. If all places are not filled we will offer any remaining places to pupils in Year 4. We intend to make this trip the Year 5 summer term trip in the future and have been able to access some excellent prices. Please don’t hesitate to let us know of any venues that people have found popular with your children if you have visited London recently. Our learning expeditions are planned to give our children a range of expanding opportunities as they go through school, and we are currently looking at a residential abroad for the Year 6 children next year in line with great practice at other schools.
PTA Invitation Monday 15th May at 7.30pm
Please remember the PTA meeting on Monday evening at 7.30pm in the Community room at school. Everyone welcome especially anyone previously involved! I hear that refreshments will be offered too!
Forthcoming class assemblies:
Year 4 Friday the 19th May at 8.40am
School gates and safety
It has been brought to our attention that some of the cars that drop off and collect children keep their engines running. This will affect air quality at the school gates, and will cost more in terms of fuel consumption. Please help to keep our children healthy by turning off car engines when not in use. Thank you!
CVPS Community Forest school day! Save the date!
To create and maintain special spaces in our outdoor play areas, we would like to invite any willing parents and family members to come to school on Saturday June 24th 9am ’til 1pm (weather permitting) for a ‘forest school session’. Activities will involve creating new interest areas, mucking out pigs, setting up new outdoor play spaces for early years, and will culminate in a forest school fire to cook some typical forest school food on. We especially need handy people with tools and DIY skills!

Achievements this week
Please note that from next week we will be changing our star handwriter award to a ‘super spelling and grammar award’. This is to highlight an increasing need for our children to focus across school on improving their spelling and grammar to meet the higher expectations in the curriculum.
