Personal Development

Our aim is that over their time at Cramlington Village Primary, learners will receive a Personal Development programme that provides them with the knowledge that they need to make decisions, to be resilient and to develop their character and personality. We will provide these rich experiences in a coherently planned way – through our curriculum and extra-curricular activities.

Promoting the Protected Characteristics at Cramlington Village Primary School

The Equality Act became law in 2010. It covers everyone in Britain and protects people from discrimination, harassment and victimisation. Everyone in Britain is protected. This is because the Equality Act protects people against discrimination because of the protected characteristics that we all have. Under the Equality Act, there are nine Protected Characteristics:

  1. Age
  2. Disability
  3. Gender reassignment
  4. Race
  5. Religion or belief
  6. Marriage or civil partnership
  7. Sex
  8. Sexual orientation
  9. Pregnancy and maternity

At CVPS, we actively promote these in our curriculum and work to embed them into our ethos.  Our class assemblies are every Wednesday and Thursday with a school senior leader.  These assemblies teach protected characteristics at an age appropriate level. We do this by using a text-based approach; sharing stories with our children to promote dialogue, questions and thoughtful responses, making explicit links to SMSC, British Values, School Values, as well as the wider curriculum.
